Philosophy for Children
Ray has delivered after school workshops for teachers in Philosophy for Children at introductory and more advanced levels and led numerous workshops for students in the middle years.
In Philosophy for Children the teacher is the leader in the Community of Inquiry. The teacher establishes the norms, rules or protocols for thinking together, teaches the thinking behaviours, selects the stimulus material role to start the inquiry process and introduces strategies by which the community can measure its success. But it is the way the students build on each other's thinking that creates successful inquiry.
Please contact us if you would like to discuss how we could assist with the introduction of Philosophy into your school or to help develop your present Philosophy program.
Feedback on a 90 minute workshop for 28 teachers in a Western Metropolitan Region Cluster in August 2006.
"Just wanted to pass on our thanks for the presentation you delivered to staff of the Cluster on Monday. The overall feedback to your sessin on Community of Inquiry was most positive, with several staff making a point to tell me how they enjoyed your workshop in particular. I think for teachers it's always a positive to have something practical to take away. Your modelling of the community of inquiry process was exactly this. Some of the secondary teachers discussed how engaging it is to use picture story books and I think they'll be looking to use some in their classrooms." - Cluster Educator
